Port of Poti

The Poti Sea Port (APM Terminals Poti) is the largest port in Georgia, handling container, transshipment of liquids, dry bulk cargo and passenger ferries. The multi-purpose facility has 15 berths, a total quay length of 2,900 meters, more than 20 quay cranes and 17 km of rail track.

The port serves as a European gateway for international trade in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan and further through the ports of the Caspian Sea to the countries of Central Asia and in the opposite direction.

The Black Sea port of Poti is a connecting link in the transportation of goods from Turkey, the Middle East, Europe to the countries of Central Asia and in the opposite direction. Transportation is carried out in three main directions and back:

  • to Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia;

  • via the Baku–Turkmenbashi ferry crossing to Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan;

  • via the Baku-Aktau ferry crossing to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

APM Terminals Poti is fully served by on-dock rail, connecting the port to the Georgian Railway network, as well as to the markets of Armenia, Azerbaijan, throughout Central Asia and beyond. Through our rail network, cargo can be safely, quickly and efficiently transported between Georgia and these markets, in addition to connecting these markets by rail and ocean links to the Black Sea, and through the Dardanelles Strait.

In 2020, APM Terminals Poti announced its plans to create a deep-water port by investing in an extensive development of the port infrastructure and superstructure (1st and 2nd stages).

The first stage of expansion plan includes a breakwater of 1,700m and a 400m multipurpose quay with 13.5 m depth able to handle dry bulk cargo and an incremental 150,000 TEUs. This berth will be able accommodate container vessels of up to 9,000 TEU.

The second stage will double the annual container capacity at Poti Sea Port to over 1 million TEU.

On March 15, 2022, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between                       JSC “Uzbekiston temir yullari” and JSC “Poti Sea Port Corporation”, providing information and consulting support for the development of mutual cooperation in the field of effective use of the transport and transit potential of the Parties.
