On October 6, 2017, the National Press Center of Uzbekistan hosted a press conference on the theme "Work accomplished during the years of independence in the system of JSC “O’zbekistan temir yo’llari”, achievements and future tasks". It was attended by representatives of the management of the Joint Stock Company, organizations and enterprises of the industry, heads of relevant departments, as well as representatives of the media.
Husniddin Khosilov, the chief manager and chief engineer of the JSC “O’zbekistan temir yo’llari”, who spoke at the meeting, noted that since the first years of Independence the railway sector of Uzbekistan has not gone through a simple path: from becoming to intensive development in the modern, progressive stage. As it was stressed, for this period the need of the national economy and the population in freight and passenger transportation is completely satisfied. In terms of cargo turnover, on a global scale, Uzbekistan is one of the leading countries. For today the total length of the railways of our country is about 7000 km. In the years of independence, 4,500 km of roads have been rehabilitated and modernized, new steel mains have been built - 2,100 km and to date about 2,500 km of railways have been fully electrified. About 10 modern stations have been built; overhaul has been carried out at more than 20 stations.
In the annals of the development of railways, the first large-scale project was the construction of the 341.6 kilometer-long railway "Navoi-Uchkuduk-Sultonuvaystag-Nukus". Despite the difficult economic situation at the time, this project was successfully implemented in 2001 and a link between the northern regions and the center of our republic was reached through a combined auto and railway bridge across the Amudarya River.
A steel breakthrough in the years of Independence was the construction of the railway line "Tashguzar - Boysun - Kumkurgan", which was popularly called "the construction of the century". In 2009, this project was fully implemented by the enterprises of the railway industry of the Republic.
In 2010, in Afghanistan, for the shortest time, the first in the history of the neighboring country, the 106-kilometer Khayraton-Mazar-i-Sharif railway was built. It was an example of recognizing the potential and capabilities of our railway workers on a global scale.
In 2011, Uzbekistan was one of the first among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States to organize the movement of high-speed trains Afrosiyob. The first high-speed route ran in the direction Tashkent-Samarkand.
Since the beginning of the launch of "Afrosiyob" until the spring of this year, two trains of this modern electric train cruised. In March and May of this year, two new trains were purchased, which have two wagons more than their predecessors.
In August 2015, the electrification of the Marakand-Karshi section was completed, which allowed to prolong the way of high-speed train Afrosiyob, now on the route Tashkent-Samarkand-Karshi. And in August 2016, on the eve of the 25th anniversary of Independence of our country, the route of the high-speed train Afrosiyob was extended to Bukhara. At the same time, a large-scale project was completed and a new road was put into operation, to the Fergana Valley, running through the mountain pass and the tunnel, the latter, by the way, unique, in its way.
At the event, it was noted that the car building industry deserved special pride. At JSC "Tashkent plant for the construction and repair of passenger cars" the range of products is expanding. In particular, one of the novelties became electric trains that run in the Fergana Valley, and the other day began to run from Bekabad to the capital and back. The theme of updating the park of locomotives was also underlined. To date, about 50 modern electric locomotives operate on the lines.
Over the past reporting period, the dynamics of the pace of development of the sphere does not decrease. There are many significant events and transformations. Answering journalists' questions, information was given on major projects of this year, among which was the start of construction of a new railway line in the direction of Bukhara-Misken. In the long term, as a result of putting this line into operation, the range on the road, relative to another bypass, will be reduced by almost 75 kilometers. Another large-scale and significant event of this year was the opening of the Afrosiyob High-Speed Trains Service Center, next to which is located almost 300 meters of overpass, erected by railroad builders. Meanwhile, intensive work continues on the construction of new metro lines in the Sergeli and Yunusadab districts of the capital.
Competent representatives of the management of JSC “O’zbekistan temir yo’llari” gave detailed information on the personnel policy in the industry, on the changes in the healthcare industry, on passenger and cargo transportation, on improving services and other issues. At the press conference, the journalists received answers to all their questions.
